Inform Your Teachers Today About the Austin Area Alliance of Black School Educators African American Teacher of the Year Awards
Austin Area Alliance of Black School Educators (AAABSE) Announce the Annual African American Teacher of the Year Recognition. We believe there are excellent teachers in the Austin area and want to acknowledge their accomplishments. Teachers from ten surrounding districts will be eligible to apply. In selecting the African American Teacher of the Year, we distinguish individual excellence, and we also gain appreciation for the dedication and ability of numerous talented teachers.
As a tribute to teaching excellence throughout the Austin area, the process begins with completion of the application.
- Teachers should submit Teacher of the Year applications by April 30, 2015. Extended to May 12, 2015
- AAABSE member teams will screen applications to select candidates.
- These semifinal candidates will be reviewed by an AAABSE team selection committee, which will name the finalists for Elementary, Middle and High School African American Teacher of the Year.
- Invited for interview by the third week of May.
- At the annual Scholarship banquet event May 31, all candidates for African American Teachers of the Year will be recognized and honored. AAABSE will name the Elementary, Middle and High School Teachers of the Year.
- The selected individuals will then represent AAABSE for the 2015-2016 school year.
Who is eligible for Teacher of the Year?
- A teaching professional (i.e. classroom teachers, Instructional Coaches, and Reading Specialists) with at least 3 years of experience, (can include the current year)
- A teaching professional who does not plan on retiring during the next academic year
- A teaching professional who spends the majority of their day teaching children in a classroom
- A teaching professional who exhibits demonstrable improvement in student performance
- A teaching professional who exemplifies excellence in teaching
